Dressed for the Weather and Recess Time!
Catholic Schools Week-Dividends for Life
Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday when the school children will participate as liturgical ministers at the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Coffee and doughnuts will be served after Mass, sponsored by the Chargers organization. The highlights for the week will include an opening prayer service on Monday, the middle school Mass at Xavier High School on Tuesday, and the all school Mass at 9:30 on Friday. For a complete listing of activities and events during CSW, please refer to the attachment below.
We will also be collecting paper items for the Marion Food Pantry, so please bring these items in to the school. Thanks to the student council for organizing this effort.
Be sure to check out our Metro Catholic Schools promotional video that will be broadcast everyday next week from 8:30-9:00 PM on Channel 9.2, immediately following the Oprah Winfrey show and at noon on February 7th. You can also check it out by going to www.metrocatholicschools.com.
Dear Catholic School Supporters
Attached is an important letter from the Iowa Catholic Conference and our school choice partner, Iowa Advocates for Choice in Education (IowaACE). The letter is intended to inform you of important aspects of the Iowa tax credit programs that directly effect families who choose to send their sons/daughters to an accredited non-public school in Iowa. While there is no need to be alarmed that these programs will be eliminated, there is considerable concern they could be revised in ways that will hurt families. Eventually, it may become necessary to ask each of you to contact your state representative or senator and ask them to stand up for families who desire school choice.
So please read the attached letter carefully and continue to monitor email from the school looking for a request for specific legislative action. Thank you for your continued prayerful support of our school and families.
Sincerely,
Jeff Henderson, Ed.S.
Superintendent of Schools
Archdiocese of Dubuque
Prayers
Please keep John Draker, one of our 4th grade students in your prayers. His grandmother passed away this week.
Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Please remember that the area directly in front of the school is not a parking area. We like to keep traffic moving along 14th street as much as possible. I would also like to encourage you to pick your child up in a way that does not force them to cross the street.
Dress for the Weather
If the combined wind chill factor and air temperature is below zero, then the children will stay indoors. Anytime it is zero and above you can count on them going outside. It is absolutely critical that the students have appropriate winter weather clothes suitable for cold Iowa weather, middle school students included. Check out my blog for more details on outdoor recess.
