The World at Your Fingertips
This afternoon I had the privilege to visit with one of your kids. I don't want to give away any names, so I will just tell you that this student is in the primary wing of our building. This young lad came into my office, plopped down in my chair and asked me how it was going. In all honesty, it has been pretty tough lately so I was eager to hear what was on this little guy's mind. So I said to him "It is going good, how about you?"
It was then that he began to share with me a vast knowledge that he had gained. He spoke with the eloquence of a young man well beyond his years. He began to give me a recitation of the seven great religions of the world and how they relate to our own Catholic faith. He shared with me his concern over the war in Iraq, and he was inquisitive about Islam. A little later on, as we continued our conversation he wanted to share with me his views on a whole host of world topics. I was more than a little impressed with his deep knowledge and understanding of world affairs. Heck, I was surprised that he could pronounce such words as Confucianism and Taoism; plus be able to tell me the country of origin (with accuracy, by the way).
After more discussion, I finally said to him "where did you learn about all this stuff"? (Because I was quite confident that they didn't have a discussion on the relationship between Judaism and Christianity in Religion class; but I guess you never know.) His answer:
The Internet.
