My Door is Always Open

This week I had the honor and privilege of visiting with some parents who were interested in gaining more knowledge about our school and were seeking clarification on some items they had heard about.  I couldn't have been happier than to accommodate their request to meet!

When I was growing up, we used to play a game called telephone.  The students in the classroom would sit in a circle, and one person would whisper a message to the person next to them, and then that person would pass it alone.  The idea was to see if you could recreate the original message by the time it came back to the original person.  More times than not, the message was vastly different from the original.  Sometimes it completely changed, sometimes the intent of the message completely changed.

Does that sometimes happen to us now?

I would argue that it does, and that it is not as uncommon as you might think.  I will hear tidbits of information "rumors" about a variety of topics.  Because of my role, much of the time it is centered around school issues.  Almost always these little morsels are dead wrong.  Sometimes in content, sometimes in context.  In fact, there have even been times where some of the information I hear is just plain made up!  (I could give you examples, but don't want to embarass anyone.)

Obviously, this begs the question, what are we to do?  Father John often jokes that he wishes the parking lot would just role up and disapear before or after school.  Since that is not likely to happen because of the laws of physics, I have a couple of other suggestions that I would like to try out.  First, if you hear something or have a question, please ask (HINT: be sure to ask the person that can actually give you the right answer; someone who starts out the sentence with the words:  [I heard...] is probably not the right person).  The second thing you could do is get involved.  We have numerous venues in which you can go straight to the source.  Go to a Chargers meeting, Board meeting, or join me for coffee the first Monday of each month at Mr. Beans.  I would love to have the company.

As always, I am here to help you.  My door is open and I would love to visit with you about the topic of your choice.  Yes, there is a chance that you may not always like the answer to a question that you ask, but wouldn't you rather hear it straight from me?
